CAMP KERN & MIRIMICHI VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Our camps on Huntington Lake have been built and maintained by volunteers during the past 68 years.  These camps cannot survive without adult leaders, parents and Scouts volunteering their time to make sure each camp season is a success for those who come to spend a week in the high Sierra.  We need you!

We need your help at Camp Kern and Mirimichi, as well as in the valley in Bakersfield.  Without volunteers devoted to making camp the best it can be, combined with the resources of Southern Sierra Council, these camps would be only forest on the shores of Huntington Lake.

COUNCIL CAMPING COMMITTE AND FRIENDS OF CAMP KERN

Come be a part of the Council Camping Committee or the Friends of Camp Kern Committee to make a difference in the future of Scouting in Southern Sierra Council.  These are excellent places to start your involvement with the future of both Camp Kern and Mirimichi.  These committees meet monthly to assess improvement needs, review long-range planning and develop plans for implementation.  If you are interested in participating, please contact the Southern Sierra Council, BSA office at (661) 325-9036.

PRODUCE DONATIONS FOR CAMP

We need people to organize and deliver fresh produce and other items donated to Camp Kern during the summer. This does not mean you have to make every trip to Huntingtron Lake.  We need someone to help in Bakersfield to coordinate donation, receipt and delivery of these items. This is just one example of how you can volunteer time to make sure each Scout who comes to camp this summer enjoys his or her experience.

LABORERS, TRADESPEOPLE AND HELPING HANDS

We have many projects at Camp Kern and Mirimichi that need attention and we need you to to help.  Businesses, service organzations, families and individuals are encouraged to adopt a project.  Although skilled laborers and tradespeople are always needed, general helpers make all the difference.  If you can hammer, haul, carry, paint, glue, draw, cook for volunteers or just lend a helping hand, we need you, too.  Projects such as remodeling a bathroom, rebuilding our cabins, campsite improvements and the like are never ending.  We always have electrical and carpentry projects, plumbing improvements, water system upgrades, painting of facilities and preparation of erosion bars that need attention.

For more information call the Southern Sierra Council, BSA service center at 661-325-9036.
