THIS JUST IN!

Week 4 (July 13th - 19th) has just opened up at Camp Kern!

So if you have been putting off making your summer plans or want to come to camp through our new provisional program, this is your chance! To make your reservations call the Southern Sierra Council at 661-325-9036.

Your adventure happens on one of the most famous sailing lakes in North America! Camp Kern is on the banks of Huntington Lake 7,000 ft above the San Joaquin Valley floor in the High Sierra Mountains of California. All troops load their gear and themselves onto camp barges and cross Huntington Lake, where their week long Boy Scout camp memories commence.

Have you ever watched the Television show Survivor?  Well, whether you have or have not, this is what your visit to Camp Kern may seem like.  Arriving at the Camp Kern parking lot, your troop will unload their gear from the transportation that you arrived in, followed by loading it onto our very large floating barges.  Then your next step is your one mile journey across Huntington Lake to the Camp Kern docks.  One way in, one way out and it’s the adventure that you will never forget.  At this point you will disembark from the barges and help unload all of the gear.  A short, steep climb up Scout Law Trail delivers you into the heart of camp.

In the heart of camp you will see the dining hall, the trading post, medical facilities and also the camp office.

When your ready, your troop guide will take you to you’re camp site.  Upon finding a general location for your gear, you will be expected to change into your swim trucks and prepare for the camp tour. During your tour of Camp Kern you will see the program area that we are so proud of in offering great programs such as Trail to First Class, wilderness camping, high adventure, all leading a Scout to his goal of Eagle Scout merit badges.

When the tour is completed, you will visit the camp doctor and then proceed to the lakeshore and enjoy a refreshing dip into the waters of Huntington Lake.  This is NO swimming pool.  It’s a fresh water lake in a series of lakes chained together through a working dam system.  The waters of Camp Kern can be as cold at 40 degrees but as warm as in the mid 60 degree range.  This is also a great step to prepare yourself for Waterdogs that happens each and every morning, many times the water is actually warmer then the outside temperature.

Get ready for the summer of your life! Camp offers more than traditional Scout camp programs. Our experienced, trained staff teaches Scouts the skills and life experiences they will not find anywhere else. Once you have experienced Camp, you will want to come back year after year. Kern Kern

So, check your gear, and start making plans right now. Camp will be your HOME for a week and you will bring back experiences to last a lifetime. Kern

We look forward to seeing you on the dock.

Your adventure starts here!
